Impact

CommuniTREE

Problem Statement

India's forest cover stands at 24% of its geographical area, against its goals of 33% by 2030. India also faces a mass wave of growing urbanisation due to the economic ambitions of the rural youth in search of better employment opportunities.

Targeted Impact Areas

CommuniTREE aims at generating employment opportunities for the rural communities of India, increasing the forest cover and enhancing the biodiversity using one simple yet powerful solution.

Proposed Solution

The project is focused on collaborating with small and medium sized, for-profit organisations that do not fall under the CSR mandate by the government. The project aims to raise funds from across the country for tree plantations on designated forest lands and for rural employment opportunities through the same. A unique branding tool has been devised in the interest of partner organisations who can leverage this collaboration to reduce their carbon footprints whilst certifying each tree plantation that they facilitate. Each of these certificates carry their brand name, logo, a message from the organisation to their recipient stakeholder and a unique geo-location tag for the recipient to track the tree planted in their name(on Google Maps).

Hub Activities

The hub is currently focused towards on-boarding new strategic partnerships with progressive and responsible businesses across India.

Short Term Goals

The Hub is optimistic about CommuniTREE facilitating the plantation of about 3000 trees by the end of 2021 by way of accelerating new collaborations and focusing on efficient impact from the current collaborations. Achieving so will result to nearly 270-280 days of employment generated and a carbon bank sequestering about 65000kgs of carbon annually.

Available Metrics

The impact metrics as an outcome of the initiative's activities so far are-

1.   No. of trees planted - 1600

2.   No. of employment days generated - 150

3.   Amount of carbon sequestered on an annual basis - 32,000kgs

Key Collaborations

The impact mentioned above has been made possible in collaboration with four organisations so far, namely;

Miko Lolo, Ecodeeds, Vruksh Ecosystem, Treewear & Permagard.
