Shaping Environment

Manipur is no exception to the effect of global warming and climate change. Scientists and Researchers project an average temperature of about 1.7 C to increase in all districts of Manipur. Climate change and deforestation have depleted many springs in the state and have created critical problems specifically in hill districts such as in Ukhrul where springs are the main source of water. Wildfire, single plastic usage, unsegregated waste and a rise in vehicle pollution are only a number of factors that pollute the Manipur environment further leading to a rise in temperature.

To make a tangible contribution in fighting climate change and environmental pollution, Global Shapers Imphal Hub aim to:

  • Raise public awareness on climate change and environmental pollution in schools, colleges and other relevant public places

  • Distribute seed bombs to all participants at the end of each awareness session

  • Plant trees with the involvement of local communities and youth in collaboration with the Forest Department, Government of Manipur (target of 8,000 trees)

  • Collect waste plastic bottles to upcycle/recycle by planting flowers and placing them in various urban spaces

  • Raise funds from the public to meet the cost involved in the project
