The Global Shapers Community, Kano Hub has inducted a new set of Shapers at the handing-over ceremony of the new curatorship, held on Tuesday 27th June, 2017 in Kano, Nigeria. The event also featured award presentation to outstanding members of the Hub.
“The Kano Hub was started over 4 years ago and has so far successfully executed many community development projects,” recalls Salihu Yakasai, the Hub’s founding curator. He thanked all Shapers for their contributions to the growth of the hub, citing the success of Shaping Nigeria; A retreat that brought Shapers from all over the country.
While welcoming the inductees at the ceremony, Kano Hub’s outgoing curator, Salisu Mahmood, said membership of the Community was reserved for “young, extraordinary and highly committed youth with great potential for future leadership roles in society, who also share a spirit of entrepreneurship in the global public interest and adhering to the highest standards of moral and intellectual integrity.”
Mahmood further stated that the new members were expected to be “committed and make sacrifices for the hub’s progress” as both are very critical for the success of the hub.” Other members of the Hub had some tips and advice to the new shapers while others pointed out the Hub’s areas of improvement. With the induction of new Shapers, the hub has grown in-strength to 32
KANO HUB’S BATON
The Kano Hub branded Coca Cola container came to life during the Founding Curator’s visit to Geneva for Annual Curators’ meeting in 2014. While other curators were branding with their names, Kano Hub founding curator was the first to brand the Coca Cola container with the name of his hub and others followed suit. It is therefore the first of its kind from the Global Shapers Community.
Although empty, the can has been passed on from one curator to another and has unofficially become the baton of the Hub.
