On 28 September - 01 October 2016, the Curator of Global Shapers Community Yerevan Hub, Ms. Sona Mirzoyan, participated in One Young World Summit 2016 in Ottawa, Canada as the Official Delegate of Armenia along with extraordinary youth leaders from 196 countries.
The opening ceremony took place in the heart of Ottawa at Parliament Hill with the presence of such wonderful world leaders as the Former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau, Nobel Prize Winner Professor Muhammad Yunus, Actress and UN Women Goodwill Ambassador Emma Watson, Former President of Ireland Mary Robinson, Public Protector of South Africa and Human Rights Lawyer Thuli Mandosela and many more. On that day, Sona presented Armenia in a beautiful national dress (taraz) and was honoured to go up the stage as the flag-bearer of her country.
She was selected as one of the few to give an interview for the Canadian CPEC TV show Outburst, touching upon such questions as World Peace, Issues Concerning the Youth Nowadays, Challenges of Indigenous Communities and Importance of Such Summits as One Young World (link - http://www.cpac.ca/en/programs/outburst/episodes/48952885/)
As Sona put it nicely together: “Young people make up 1/4 of the world’s population and I can say with assurance that today’s Youth has the utmost potential, courage and will to change the world for the better. It requires commitment, action and belief that together we will go far and united we will win the fight for Justice, Security, Equality, Dignity, Respect and Peace. Of course, it will not be easy, but we will make it POSSIBLE!”
